Tony Stewart Statement Regarding Joyce Newton
ROSSBURG, Ohio . (Jan. 16, 2018) – The following is a statement from Eldora Speedway owner Tony Stewart on the passing of Hoosier Racing Tire co-founder Joyce Newton.
“Joyce Newton and her husband, Bob, were huge supporters of grassroots racing and together made for one heckuva team. I take solace in knowing they’re back together again. Joyce was an incredibly strong and resilient woman, running Hoosier Racing Tire after Bob’s passing in 2012 and looking after racers on dirt and asphalt tracks across the United States. She genuinely cared about the people who raced on Hoosier tires. She was a fantastic person filled with compassion and kindness who will be genuinely missed but not forgotten.”
Eldora founder Earl Baltes, United Midwest Promoters (UMP) founder Bob Memmer, and the Newton family forged a bond in the early 1980’s based on common rules for the dirt late model division which lasts to this day – and sees the World 100 annually attract the largest single-day crowd in all of short-track racing.
