SHAFFER BEATS THE WORLD OF OUTLAWS TO OPEN 4-CROWN WEEKEND

ROSSBURG, OH – Tim Shaffer outraced Shane Stewart into turn one at the drop of the green flag and then held off a late race challenge from Donny Schatz to capture Friday night’s World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series BeFour The Crowns Challenge at Eldora Speedway.

The $10,000 win was Shaffer’s fourth career World of Outlaw win at Eldora and was his second win of the year at Eldora, after also winning the All Star Circuit of Champions Ohio Sprint Speedweek stop at the high-banked, one-half mile oval in June.

“It is awesome to get an outlaw win here,” Shaffer, of Aliquippa, Pennsylvania said. “This is one tough place! We have had a really good year and I am really happy to get them an outlaw win. We held off a great team to win and we are building a great team here.”

Schatz inherited second-place when Stewart blew a tire on lap 13 of the 30-lap event, handing the runner-up position to the two-time defending Kings Royal champion.

Shaffer stretched the lead out to nearly a straightaway after the green flag came back out but as the laps wound down, Schatz began to close in. As the lead duo crossed the start/finish line to complete lap 28, Schatz was right on Shaffer’s bumper.

Schatz tried everything he could think of over the final two laps but could not make a pass for the lead and had to settle for second-place.

“Second-place sucks,” Schatz said. “I had a great car and feel like I just didn’t make the right moves at the right time. He did a great job and congratulations to him.”

Rico Abreu had climbed to third-place, but suffered a flat tire on the final lap and fell to seventh at the checkered flag. Joey Saldana finished in third-place ahead of Jason Johnson and David Gravel. Brad Sweet, Abreu, Brent Marks, Chad Kemenah and Jac Haudenschild completed the top ten.

Heat races were won by Stewart, Johnson, Schatz and Shaffer. Cale Conley won the C-main. Cole Duncan won the B-main and Shaffer earned the pole position of the feature event by winning the Dash.

Paul Pardo picked up his second win of the season, charging from mid-pack to capture the 15-lap Eldora Stock Car main event. Veteran Earnie Woodard finished in the second position, while Gary Rahe, Jr. finished in third-place.

The third-place run was enough to allow Rahe, Jr. to win the Eldora Stock Car season championship over Frank Paladino.

The Four Crown Nationals concludes tonight with four different divisions in action. The United State Auto Club (USAC) Silver Crown Series, National Sprint Car Series and the National Midget Series will be joined by the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions. Warm ups begin at 5:40 PM with the first race scheduled to begin at 8:00 PM.
