ELDORA
KICKS OFF SEPTEMBER WITH TRADITION
ROSSBURG, OH (Aug. 20) – Eldora Speedway is the home of
many great traditional events, rich in history and prestige,
with the two longest running events set to kick off the month
of September at the historic speed plant.
Both events
were created by Eldora’s founder, Earl Baltes, who sold
the track to two-time NASCAR champion Tony Stewart in 2005.
Stewart’s commitment to continue the Eldora legacy has
seen a continuation of these celebrated events.
Entering
its 38th year, the Johnny Appleseed Classic, featuring the Sunoco
sponsored American Late Model Series (ALMS) will take place
on Sunday night, September 2, while the 37th annual running
of the World 100 for Late Models will occupy the following weekend,
September 7 and 8.
The timing
and placement of the events, has increased the popularity of
the Appleseed race. In addition to the opportunity to etch their
name into history with a Johnny Appleseed Classic victory, many
teams use the race as a tune-up for the prestigious World 100.
Brad Neat
of Dunnville, KY is the defending Appleseed winner, as he bested
a 62-car field last season. Joining the big triple-header card
that night will be the UMP (United Midwestern Promoters) Modifieds
and Advance Auto Parts Stock Cars.
While not
necessarily the biggest payoff, the most sought-after prize
in dirt Late Model racing, the famed ‘globed trophy’,
signifying a World 100 victory, comes up for grabs the following
weekend, September 7 and 8.
Earl Pearson,
Jr. out dueled a stellar 195 car field to capture last year’s
coveted prize and a $39,000 paycheck. In keeping with tradition,
the top prize for this year’s chase has been increased
by $1,000 to $40,000.
The event
kicks off Friday night (Sept. 7) with the time honored format
of two rounds of single-lap time trial runs and the non-qualifier
races, followed by Saturday’s (Sept. 8) menu which will
feature six qualifying heat races, a pair of B-Mains and the
highly anticipated World 100, a 50-mile pursuit around Eldora’s
notorious one-half mile clay oval.
Event information
for both races may be obtained online at www.eldoraspeedway.com
or by calling the track office at (937) 338-3815 during normal
business hours.
