CHEVY’S
AMERICAN REVOLUTION WEEKEND TO BE SPRINT CAR SMORGASBORD
ROSSBURG,
OH (Sept. 13) – Eldora Speedway’s An American Revolution
Weekend presented by Chevy will actually be more of an evolution
of sorts as five versions of open wheel racing will be showcased
over the weekend of September 21 and 22. For four of those,
it will be their final 2007 appearance on Eldora’s famed
high-banked clay oval.
Kicking
off the action on Friday night will be the touring World of
Outlaws (Woo) and the UMP (United Midwestern Promoters) Modifieds.
The winged WoO Sprint Cars will be making their final Midwestern
tour with the Eldora stop, and with them they will be brining
parity as there have not repeat winners in their four previous
2007 Eldora visits. Jason Meyers (April 13), Paul McMahan (June
2), Steve Kinser (July 13) and Donny Schact (July 14) have all
entered Eldora’s hallowed victory lane this year.
Meanwhile
the UMP Modifieds will be continuing their points chase towards
the 2007 Modified title. The Friday night show will actually
be the first segment of the 26th annual Four Crown Nationals
which will fill the Saturday card.
Scott
Orr currently heads up the Eldora points race for Modifieds,
which will close out their season two weeks later in the UMP
National Championships (October 5 & 6).
Saturday’s
busy agenda will feature the remaining three legs of the traditional
Four Crown event, and, as since its inception, the event will
be run under the banner of the United States Auto Club (USAC).
USAC’s three National divisions – Midget, Sprint
Car and Silver Crown – will run a full program, including
time trials, heats and main events.
The level
of intensity within the Four Crown is immense, as several drivers
do double and even triple duty. Unlike the WoO fraternity the
night before, each of the USAC divisions run without the top
mounted aerodynamic wings. This puts more emphasis on the driver
to maneuver their 700+ horsepower machines around the high-speed
oval.
Weather
has played havoc with the USAC schedule at Eldora this season,
with the Four Crown marking only the second appearance of the
year. Robert Ballou bested the USAC Sprint Car field when they
appeared for the Eldora segment of Border Wars on April 28.
Friday’s
slate will get underway with practice at 6:00 and racing at
7:30, while Saturday’s format calls for practice to get
underway at 2:30 and racing at 7:30 PM.
