Open Wheel Paradise
Eldora Speedway to Host American Revolution Weekend Presented
by Chevy Featuring the Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws and
USAC 4-Crown Nationals
INDIANAPOLIS (Sept. 15, 2008) –For open wheel fans, keeping
up with where their favorite USAC and World of Outlaws drivers
are racing each weekend can be quite a challenge as each series
criss-crosses the country chasing season-long championships.
For the second consecutive year, the American Revolution Weekend
presented by Chevy at Eldora Speedway puts them all in the same
place. By combining the USAC 4-Crown Nationals with an Advance
Auto Parts World of Outlaws (WoO) Sprint car event, Eldora offers
fans of Midgets, Silver Crown, and both non-wing and winged
Sprint cars the chance to see all the top stars on consecutive
nights at the famous high-speed, high-banked half-mile owned
by Tony Stewart.
Eldora Speedway has always been a cornerstone of the WoO Sprint
Car Series schedule since 1978, when the series began. This
year marks the 30th anniversary for the winged Sprint series,
and Friday’s event will be its fifth stop at the track
this season.
During the first 29 years of WoO action, 63 “A”
features have been contested at the track with 30 different
drivers claiming victory.
In 20 of the Outlaws’ first 29 seasons, the WoO champion
scored a win at Eldora during the year. That bodes well for
current point leader Donny Schatz, who won his second career
WoO “A” feature at Eldora on May 31 aboard Tony
Stewart Racing’s No. 15 Armor All/Chevy/ParkerStore J&J.
In 2007, Schatz won the 24th annual Kings Royal at Eldora and
then went on to win the WoO title.
The WoO races at the “Big E” have been action-packed
during the past two seasons with seven different winners taking
the nine races. In the first two events of 2008, late-race passes
for the lead kept fans on their feet until the checkered flag
waved. In July’s Kings Royal, winner Daryn Pittman had
to hold off a furious charge by Jason Meyers on the last lap
to take home the $50,000 prize.
The drama should continue in Friday’s WoO event as the
series’ most recent winner and Eldora favorite, Jac Haudenschild,
leads the Outlaws to Eldora. Schatz and Meyers will carry on
their battle for the 2008 WoO points crown. TSR’s Kraig
Kinser will look to continue his recent surge while his dad,
Steve Kinser, tries to make 2008 the 21st year he’s won
a WoO “A” feature at Eldora.
Since 1981, the famed Eldora Speedway has played host to 4-Crown
Nationals late in the season showcasing USAC’s Midget,
Sprint or Silver Crown series. On Saturday, the tradition continues
with complete events for Midgets, Sprint cars and Silver Crown.
Thirty-three different drivers have won a feature event in
the prestigious 4-Crown Nationals while competing in the Midget,
Sprint car and Silver Crown classes. Jack Hewitt leads the list
of winners with 16 wins in the three USAC divisions. He also
scored three Modified wins, one of which came in 1998, when
Hewitt did the unthinkable and swept all four events.
Tony Stewart Racing’s (TSR) Tracy Hines ranks fourth
all-time with four career wins in the 4-Crown Nationals, picking
up a pair of Midget and Sprint triumphs. In 2006, he claimed
both the USAC Midget and Sprint Series feature races. On Saturday,
he’ll head the list of talented USAC Midget competitors
at Eldora as the national points leader and most recent winner.
Last Saturday, Hines drove the TSR No. 21 Chevrolet/Bass Pro
entry to victory at Anderson (Ind.) Speedway.
Hines will also be looking to sweep the USAC Sprint Series
events at Eldora this season. He won the May 10 and June 14
USAC Sprint car features behind the wheel of the TSR No. 21
Chevrolet/Bass Pro Shops Maxim.
Hines’ TSR teammate, Levi Jones, leads the USAC National
Sprint Series points championship in the No. 20 Chevrolet/Bass
Pro Maxim. Jones, the 2007 USAC Sprint champion, recently claimed
the 2008 Chevy Powers USAC Indiana Sprint Week Championship
and is looking for his first USAC Sprint Series victory since
May 22 at the Terre Haute (Ind.) Action Track. Jones picked
up a USAC Midget win on Aug. 24 at Angell Park Speedway in Sun
Prairie, Wis., by beating Hines and giving TSR a one-two feature
finish.
Hines and Jones will be two of many competitors vying for USAC
4-Crown Nationals glory on Saturday night.
The two-day American Revolution Weekend presented by Chevrolet
will kick off on Friday, with gates opening at 3 p.m. EDT. Practice
for the WoO Sprint Series and United Midwest Promoters (UMP)
Modifieds begins at 6 p.m. with racing scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
For Saturday’s American Revolution Weekend/USAC 4-Crown
finale, gates will open at 11 a.m. Practice and qualifying for
the USAC Silver Crown, Sprint and Midget divisions will take
place from 3-6 p.m. A 45-minute autograph session featuring
the stars of USAC is scheduled for 6:15 p.m. The session is
open to the public and will be conducted in the multi-purpose
building outside turns three and four on the Eldora Speedway
property. Racing for all three USAC divisions will begin Saturday
at 7:30 p.m.

Weekend at Eldora Speedway can be purchased by calling (937)
