ELDORA'S
KINGS ROYAL WEEKEND TO BE BUSY
ROSSBURG, OH (June 25) –
As one of the original Sprint Car traditions, Eldora Speedway’s
annual Kings Royal weekend is shaping up to be another activity-filled
affair which will be capped off by the July 18 time-honored
crowning of the $50,000 King of winged Sprint Car racing with
a trip to the hallowed throne. Daryn Pittman of Owasso, OK
made the trip last year.
Kicking off the extracurricular action Thursday
evening (July 16) will be an American Red Cross charity go-kart
race on the front stretch of Eldora. The free to the public
team-style race is being conducted by the Mercer (OH) County
American Red Cross chapter as part of their five-race swing
and will be followed by Eldora’s traditional Party on
the Patio.
Friday’s (July 17) fun will kick off
with the second annual Cornhole Tournament at 10:00 AM, which
will reward the winning team with a $200 cash prize; while
the runner-up team will receive $100 for their efforts. Complete
entry information and applications may be downloaded by visiting
the Eldora website at www.eldoraspeedway.com.
On track action Friday night will feature
the fabled Knight Before the Kings Royal, a complete racing
program for the World of Outlaw (WoO) Sprints and National
Racing Alliance (NRA) Sprint Invaders.
Saturday afternoon’s (July 18) featured
activity will be the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame (NSCHoF)
fund-raising auction in the multi-purpose building. This event,
with proceeds going to the non-profit NSCHoF foundation, has
escalated in popularity over the past four years, with the
monies collected appreciatively growing as well.
As part of Saturday’s enchanted Kings
Royal, Eldora is offering the opportunity for fans and businesses
to sponsor laps within the 40-lap chase. At $50 per lap, all
of the money raised is paid back to the drivers running in
positions 1 – 3 on each sponsored lap. That information
is available on the speedway’s website as well.
Completing the weekend will be the Kings
Royal chase for royalty and year-long bragging rights as the
reigning King of Sprint Car racing. To again be sanctioned
by WoO, the normal 30-lap main event is increased by ten to
40 laps around Eldora’s legendary one-half mile high-banked
clay oval. That main event will be preceded by a full WoO
program, along with the NRA Sprint Invaders, as well.
Advance tickets for the racing weekend may
be purchased online at the speedway website or by calling
the track office at (937) 338-3815 during normal business
hours.
