TWO
STORYLINES ACCOMPANY FINAL 2009 WORLD OF OUTLAW VISIT TO ELDORA
ROSSBURG, OH (Sept. 22) – When the
travelling World of Outlaw (WoO) Sprint tour makes its fourth
and final Eldora visit of the 2009 season this Friday evening,
it will bring with it two distinct storylines – the
tightest points chase in recent WoO history and an Eldora
winless Steve Kinser.
When the winged Outlaw Sprint warriors take
to the Eldora one-half mile clay oval on the opening night
of the Team Chevy 4 Crown Nationals, it will see a continuation
of a rugged battle for the cumulative points championship.
Defending champion Donny Schatz is clinging on to an 18 point
lead over a consistent Jason Meyers, who in turn leads Joey
Saldana by a mere 30 markers.
Schatz, who prior to 2007 was winless at
Eldora, has since found the fast groove and has recorded four
WoO triumphs in three years, including two Kings Royal wins
(2007, 2009). He has 12 wins thus far into the 2009 WoO trail,
while runner-up Meyers has eight. Although Meyers has a pair
of Eldora wins to his credit, they date back to 2003 and 2007.
Since that last win, he has been knocking on the door to Eldora’s
hallowed victory lane, but unable to cross the finish line
first.
That victory lane absence has not been felt
elsewhere on the trail recently, by either Meyers or Saldana.
Of the most recent ten WoO main events, that duo has dominated
the winner’s circle. Meyers has four wins, while Saldana
is on a tear with 6 conquests. He has an equal number of Eldora
wins on his resume; including two wins last season. Considered
to be one of the most exciting drivers on Eldora’s notoriously
fast oval, Saldana is banking on a strong run to improve his
positioning in the lucrative points pursuit.
In untypical fashion, 20-time WoO champion
Steve Kinser is resting back in fourth place, 196 tallies
behind Schatz. A two-time winner on the 2009 WoO trail, Kinser
shows no Eldora wins to his credit this season, nor last.
The Bloomington, IN veteran sits comfortably atop the WoO
feature win list at Eldora with 34 checkered flags in the
127 events contested and has recorded victories in 20 of the
32 years of WoO racing at Eldora, so the two-year drought
is not to his liking.
The one-night Outlaw program will be the
final Midwestern stop for the coast-to-coast series, and the
first of two nights of racing at Eldora. Saturday’s
program will see the second through fourth crowns earned as
the aerodynamic wings come off and USAC (United States Auto
Club) takes center stage with their Midget, Sprint and Silver
Crown divisions. Complete information may be obtained by viewing
