OH (June 15) It has been some time since Jack Hewitt felt
the hot pressure of his competitors at Eldora Speedway.
But Hewitt might find things a bit “heated”
as he takes front and center for the “Dew It To Hewitt”
Roast at the Eldora Ballroom on Thursday evening, Sept.
23.
The event coincides with the annual “4-Crown Weekend,”
featuring the World of Outlaws Sprint Cars and all three
national touring divisions of USAC (United States Auto Club).
Hewitt, who retired from competition following a serious
crash in 2003, remains an Eldora icon. He grew up in nearby
Troy, and honed his Hall of Fame skills on the legendary
Eldora clay.
A host of former competitors and friends will line up to
grill Hewitt, all in good-natured fun…well, pretty
much. Hewitt is known for his biting, over-the-top sense
of humor, and this is a rare opportunity for friends—and
foes—to point the needle squarely back toward Hewitt.
“It’s all going to be fun, but these guys have
to remember that I get the last word,” Hewitt said
with his trademark smile. “I know there’s going
to be hell to pay, but I can give ‘em hell right back.”
The event is a charitable fundraiser to benefit the Midwest
Auto Racing Charities. Tickets are $30, including dinner
and a cash bar. Writer Dave Argabright, who co-authored
Hewitt’s 2004 autobiography, “Hewitt’s
Law” will serve as emcee.
Because the event will likely include some off-color zingers,
attendees are asked not to bring children or anyone who
is easily offended.
Seating is limited and it is expected that this event will
be a sellout. No tickets will be sold at the door, which
will open at 6:00PM that evening. The meal will be served
at 7:00PM, with the roasting of Hewitt to commence at 8:30.
