FOCUS ON WORLD 100 PROMPTS BEST APPEARING CAR AWARD
ROSSBURG,
OH (August 11) – Undeniably, no event showcases dirt
Late Model racing in higher profile than Eldora Speedway’s
World 100. The chase for the coveted ‘globed trophy’
has become an annual pilgrimage for hundreds of race teams;
with knowledge that they will be surrounded by the best
of the business, in a similar pursuit. This year’s
gathering, the 40th annual, will converge upon the southwestern
Ohio speed plant over the weekend of September 10 &
11.
With knowledge that the eyes of the sport from every corner
of the Nation, and increased media attention are upon them,
Late Model teams put special emphasis on the World 100.
For many, their whole season is a tune-up for this race
A recent trend among the teams has been the debut of new
graphic designs for the marquee event.
Michael Rigsby, founder of DirtonDirt.com, sensed the trend
three years ago. Through his group, Rigsby announced the
debut of the annual World 100 Beat Appearing Car and Crew
award in 2007, with a $500 cash bonus to the winning team.
The recipient is determined via a vote amongst the media
members in attendance.
Chuck Frank (Slavic Graphics) was the initial winner, with
Tony Knowles (All Star Graphix) capturing the award in 2008.
Last year’s beneficiary was Ray Cook (Star Grafix).
This year Rigsby and his DirtonDirt.com group has amped
the prize money to $1000, with an interesting twist. The
winning race team will again receive $500, and the winning
graphics company will also receive $500.
“We love doing the award. The World 100 produces something
new, special and different every year. It’s something
that the fans look forward to every year”, commented
Rigsby. “This is our way of offering a reward for
the efforts of the teams.”
The unveiling of the new looks will begin Thursday, September
9 with the inspection of the teams by UMP (United Midwestern
Promoters) officials. Track action begins Friday evening
with two rounds of single-lap time trial runs and continues
into Saturday’s qualifying heat races, a pair of B-Mains
and the grueling 100 lap chase around Eldora’s high-banked
one-half mile clay oval.
The voting will take place during Saturday’s media
luncheon, with the 2010 DirtonDirt.com Best Appearing Car
Award to be revealed just prior to the Saturday race program.
