OHIO’S WILSON COMES FROM NINTH TO SCORE FIRST CAREER WORLD OF OUTLAWS VICTORY AT ELDORA

Abreu, Stewart Challenge Wilson in Fierce Battle Throughout 30-Lap Portion of #4Crown Nationals

Wilson, who won an All Star Circuit of Champions race at Eldora in June, started ninth, but quickly worked his way up to the front and led the last half of the race.ROSSBURG, Ohio (September 25, 2015) – Greg Wilson, who lives just 80 miles northwest from Eldora Speedway, held off Rico Abreu and Shane Stewart to win his first career World of Outlaws race at Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio.

“I want to thank everybody,” said Wilson who hails from Benton Ridge, Ohio. “This has been a long time coming. I’m a blessed dude and to win at Eldora – I was in tears. If you’re going to win somewhere, this is the place to do it in front of the best fans in the world.”

Pole sitter Chad Kemenah, from Alveda, Ohio took the early lead but was passed by Abreu just past the 10-lap mark. Abreu and Stewart then battled for the lead just past the 15-lap mark, but all of a sudden, Wilson shot by on the low side and got by both of them.

Wilson then rode the bottom all the way to the finish to score his historic victory.

“This is the World of Outlaws,” Wilson said. “I just turned 40 years old. You’re not going to wipe this smile off my face.”

Stewart was second, Abreu was third, while Donny Schatz and Dale Blaney rounded out the top-five. Blaney came from 21st to fifth.

Several drivers, including Abreu and Stewart made their way to victory lane to congratulate the first time winner.

In the UMP Modified race, Travis Stemler also came from ninth to first to claim his first win at Eldora Speedway.

Stemler, from Ionia, Michigan, is now set for next weekend’s three day UMP Fall Nationals also held at Eldora.

“For about three weeks I’ve just been on fire,” Stemler said. “I appreciate everyone’s help. You always dream of being in victory lane at Eldora. This is just a dream come true and I don’t think I’ll sleep tonight.”

Zeke McKenzie, from Claypool, Indiana, finished second, while Jerry Bowersock, Aaron Orr and Jonathan Taylor rounded out the top-five.

The #4Crown continues tomorrow with the United States Auto Club (USAC) Silver Crown, Sprint Car and Midget Cars national tours joining together at a speedway USAC has called home since 1962.
