DIRT DERBY FAQ

ELDORA OFF REVISED 2020 NASCAR SCHEDULE

DIRT DERBY WILL NOT BE HELD IN 2020

Eldora Speedway’s NASCAR Gander Outdoors & RV Truck Series event is not a part of the newly revised 2020 NASCAR series schedules. The eighth annual Eldora Dirt Derby, the only NASCAR national series event held on dirt, was to be held July 29-30.

The Ohio Department of Health’s robust response to the COVID-19 health crisis includes orders restricting mass gatherings and prohibiting spectators from grandstands at large venues. Given current conditions, state officials have withheld approval of Eldora’s proposal to host reduced capacity events in a responsible and safe manner.

Without certainty as to when Eldora might be able to host spectators, and if those dates would coincide with available dates on the NASCAR Gander Outdoors & RV Truck Series schedule, Eldora and NASCAR officials jointly agreed to remove the event from the 2020 calendar.

TICKET INFORMATION

Fans who have purchased reserved seats, general admission tickets and campsites for the eighth annual Eldora Dirt Derby should retain their tickets, camping credentials and receipts at this time. With 2020 marking the conclusion of Eldora’s five-year sanction agreement with NASCAR, and the ever-changing dynamics associated with the coronavirus outbreak, discussions are ongoing between Eldora and NASCAR for 2021. The Eldora Speedway box office will communicate updates direct to the original patron account holder as they become available.

In the event of personal hardships related to COVID-19, refund requests may be requested. To request a refund, patrons must send back all physical tickets/camping permits/vouchers and include a signed letter indicating the requested refund. Please be sure to include the primary patron account holder name and phone number. Refund requests are to be mailed to Eldora Speedway Tickets, 13929 State Route 118, New Weston, OH 45348 and must be postmarked by July 30, 2020. If requesting a refund and tickets are currently in Will Call, a signed letter is still required. All refunds will be by method of original purchase. Requests will be reviewed in the order they are received, please allow up to eight weeks for processing and for the credit to be issued to individual card statements.

Please be aware that Dirt Derby tickets or campsites that are refunded now are not eligible for renewal for any potential 2021 NASCAR-sanctioned or replacement event at Eldora. The tickets and campsites will go back into the public pool of available tickets for others to purchase. See the FAQ section below for additional refund details.

QUOTES ON LOSS OF 2020 EVENT

“Since we started working on this event in September 2012, it has been a collective team effort,” said Roger Slack, general manager of Eldora Speedway. “When we held the first NASCAR race on dirt in almost 43 years, nobody knew what would happen, what to expect, if it would work, or if there would be a second one. We all took a giant leap of faith and placed a lot of trust in each other – Eldora, NASCAR, the teams and, most importantly, the race fans – that we would all deliver a successful event.

“Eight years later, Eldora remains a highlight of the NASCAR season. The atmosphere in the grandstands is electric, and you can always count on someone having a big career moment that night. This year’s lineup of dirt racers who planned to battle the Truck Series regulars was going to produce one of our strongest fields ever. Losing this event is a gut punch for everyone who is a part of it.

“We’ve now lost races for every single local and national division that competes at Eldora. We cannot hold events without healthy race fans and racers. It’s that simple. The fastest way for us all to be back together again at Eldora, with full grandstands and full campgrounds, and $2 beers, is another collective team effort.

“As a community, racers and race fans need to heed the advice of our local doctors and nurses: practice social distancing; wear a cloth face covering, bandana or mask; wash your hands; and keep sanitizer at the ready. The virus knows no county line or state border and it’s on all of us to do our part to stop the spread. Until we do so, Eldora and a lot of speedways are going to sit empty.”

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

+      What is happening to the Dirt Derby?

  • Without certainty as to when Eldora might be able to host spectators, and if those dates would coincide with available dates on the NASCAR Gander Outdoors & RV Truck Series schedule, Eldora and NASCAR officials jointly agreed to remove the event from the 2020 calendar.

+      What happens to the tickets and campsites I already have?

  • Hang on to tickets, camping credentials and receipts at this time. With 2020 marking the conclusion of Eldora’s five-year sanction agreement with NASCAR, and the ever-changing dynamics associated with the coronavirus outbreak, discussions are ongoing between Eldora and NASCAR for 2021. Should a NASCAR sanctioned event take place at Eldora in 2021, seating locations and account credits will transfer to the new event. Eldora Speedway will communicate updated information to patron accounts as it becomes available.

+      My tickets are in Will Call. What do I do?

  • You are all set. We will continue to hold onto your order. However, if you would prefer your tickets to be mailed to you instead, simply call the ticket office during regular business hours.

+      What if a NASCAR event doesn’t happen at Eldora in 2021?

  • All tickets and campsites would be eligible for a refund in that scenario. Eldora Speedway will communicate updated information to patron accounts as it becomes available.

+      Can I just get a refund now and forfeit my seating locations?

  • Refunds are available now for for those experiencing personal hardships. Refunds cannot be processed until the physical tickets are mailed back to the ticket office along with a signed letter indicating the request. Send refund requests to:

    Eldora Speedway Tickets
    13929 State Route 118
    New Weston, OH 45348

Refunds must be postmarked by July 30, 2020. Refunds will be issued in the order they are received. Please allow up to 4 weeks for the credit to appear on your statement.

IMPORTANT: Once tickets/camping are refunded, the seating/camping location is then forfeited for any potential NASCAR event or replacement event held in 2021.

+      Why not just run the Dirt Derby on TV without fans?

  • Due to the unique nature of this event, it is not financially feasible to run the race without fans in attendance.

+      Can I exchange my Dirt Derby tickets for tickets to another event?

  • Due to the fluid nature of the 2020 season and the coronavirus pandemic, we cannot offer exchanges to other events on the 2020 schedule. Simply put, we do not know if or when we will be permitted to host fans in 2020.

+      What about the rest of the events on your 2020 schedule?

  • All spectator events scheduled for the months of July and August have been postponed. We will continue our efforts to gain the necessary approval to open for our remaining events in 2020. Our coronavirus page is updated, when necessary, with schedule changes.

+      What about the other events you postponed earlier this year? What is happening with those?

  • Those events remain postponed at this time and, frankly, the window of opportunity to hold them is closing every day. For Eldora Speedway to host spectators at events this year, we need the racing community to practice social distancing, wear a cloth face covering, bandana or mask when you’re around others, and practice good hygiene by frequently washing or sanitizing your hands. Not until the spread of the COVID-19 virus is under control and the State of Ohio lifts the order prohibiting spectators from grandstands at large venues will we be able to start working with the sanctioning bodies to reschedule the events. When we know, you’ll know – we appreciate and understand your frustration!
